Derwent fm Triumphs at UK Town and Gown Association Awards 2024

We’re thrilled to share that we were celebrated at the UK Town and Gown Association (UKTGA) Awards 2024 in Manchester, receiving prestigious honours that reflect our commitment to building thriving student communities. As a network dedicated to strengthening relationships between universities and local communities, the UKTGA’s mission aligns perfectly with ours: to create inclusive, resilient environments where students and local communities can flourish side by side.

Our Wins:

  • Student-Led Community Initiative Award Winner: Brunswick House’s Student Warden Programme
  • Highly Commended Runner-Up – Community Champion Award: Chris Moden at Brunswick House
  • Highly Commended Runner-Up: Partnership Award

These awards recognise the creativity, dedication, and teamwork that our people bring to making our properties some of the best places for students to live and learn.

Why We Won: A Snapshot of Our Award-Winning Initiatives

Student-Led Community Initiative Award Winner: Brunswick House’s Student Warden Programme
Our Student Warden Programme at Brunswick House empowers students to take on leadership roles that strengthen community bonds. Wardens manage tasks like lockouts, maintenance reports, and peer support outside regular hours, creating a safer, more connected environment. This programme not only enhances security but also builds real-life skills in responsibility and communication that students can carry forward.

Community Champion Highly Commended Runner-Up: Chris Moden
Chris Moden, Maintenance Assistant at Brunswick House, was recognised for his extraordinary commitment to creating a warm, inclusive environment. From building a courtyard garden where students can pick fresh herbs and vegetables to crafting bespoke furniture for communal areas, Chris goes above and beyond to make Brunswick House feel like home. His work reflects the personal touch that sets us apart and makes our communities so inviting.

Partnership Award Highly Commended Runner-Up: Collaborative Initiatives
Our Highly Commended Partnership Award acknowledges the strategic collaborations we’ve built to enhance student life and promote sustainability. Our partnership with Tesco provides weekly food donations to reduce waste and support students, while Friends International connects international students with local buddies, helping them settle into UK life. With projects like Bike For Good at Hyndland House, where students can access free bike maintenance and lessons, we ensure that our communities are supported, engaged, and ready to thrive.

What This Means for Our Clients

Winning these awards sends a clear message to our university partners and property owners: when you work with us, you’re choosing a provider that goes beyond the basics. We’re here to build communities that support students’ growth and wellbeing through innovation, collaboration, and genuine care. Our award-winning initiatives show that we’re not only in the business of property management but of creating spaces where students feel truly at home and connected to their communities. This approach sets us apart and makes us the go-to partner for universities and property owners who are serious about fostering vibrant, resilient student communities.

Our achievements at the UKTGA Awards validate the impact we’re making across the UK and Ireland. We’re incredibly proud of our team’s hard work and the role they play in transforming our properties into exceptional places for students to call home.
